Saturday afternoon saw the return of the annual Strawberry Teas on the lawn at Glebe, and the weather, for once, behaved itself beautifully.
Well over a hundred visitors worked their way through mountains of scones, several trays of flapjack and more strawberries than anyone thought sensible to order. The great cream-first or jam-first debate rumbled on all afternoon and remains, as ever, unresolved. Doreen Pickles' tea urn performed faultlessly, and the Glebe juniors ran a very popular guess-the-weight-of-the-sponge competition, won this year by a visitor from Possett with a remarkably confident guess.
Best of all, the afternoon raised 614 pounds for the chapel roof fund. Thank you to everyone who baked, poured, served and washed up, and to all who came along and ate so willingly for a good cause. Same time next year!
