Privett Street in Bloom

The Privett Street Flower Festival returned over the first weekend of July, and the chapel has rarely looked lovelier.

This year's theme was Parables in Petals, with fourteen arrangements each telling a story from the gospels. The Sower proved a popular subject, interpreted three separate times by three separate arrangers, none of whom had thought to compare notes. Sunflowers stole the show throughout, towering cheerfully over the pulpit in Margaret Henge's much-admired centrepiece, The Light of the World.

Teas were served in the schoolroom all weekend, and the festival closed on Sunday evening with Songs of Praise led by Rev'd Paul Thompson, choosing hymns on a suitably horticultural theme. We Plough the Fields and Scatter was sung with particular enthusiasm, if not always in the same key.

Thank you to the flower guild, the tea rota and everyone who came to look, sniff and sing. Proceeds from the weekend will be shared between chapel funds and All We Can.
